I was surprised to find another artist right in my own backyard...
Let me introduce you to John Curry. He is a resident of Oakland County, Michigan and has been sculpting for a number of years. He has won awards for his whimsical collection of life size as well as scaled down sized sculptures. He has a fabulous collection of commercial pieces as well.
Come and take a look at a sampling of his wonderful witty work...
Here he is out back behind his home currently working on another piece that will be part of a series called "The Labor Pool" Collection... It's an electrician called "Sparky Witts"... and yes you guessed it...when it is finished he will be experiencing the wonders of "live current"...
Descending downstairs, I'm introduced to these two characters who are also part of the "Labor Pool" series. The sculpture on the left is a painter, aptly named "Peter Paintier" that comes complete with ladder, paint can, and brush. The one on the right is a sculpture of a carpenter named "Splinder Woods". He too comes equipped with a hand saw, a T square, and leveler. These two boys stand between 42" and 48"in height. Love their sense of fashion style...don't you?!
There's just something about a guy who wears "coke bottle" glasses with a smelly cigar hanging out of his mouth that is just sooooo appealing!
John made it clear that he was adamant that his "boys" wear only the best shoes... I really like "my men" in red... what do you think?
I can appreciate the "lighter side" that John expresses through his characters...I'm reminded of rule 86..."don't take yourself too seriously".
I want to thank John for taking the time out to show me around his studio and for bringing a chuckle to my day!
(If you would like to contact John, just drop me a line and I will put you in touch with him directly).
Thanks for dropping by...
and enjoy your day.
i like his humor....
